Ben Davies put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract at Notts County this afternoon and predicted: "the next few years will be really exciting".

The midfielder turned down offers from a number of clubs to make the move to Meadow Lane from last season's beaten Playoff Finalists Shrewsbury Town.

In fact he spurned offers from clubs as high as the Championship in order to become Ian McParland's sixth summer signing.

And he made it clear that after meeting McParland and Chairman-Elect Peter Trembling last Thursday their ambitions matched his own.

He said: "I would not be sat here doing this interview if I wasn't impressed with the ambition and plans I've heard about Notts County.

"I've come here to get promoted and from last year's finish it is obvious the Manager wants a big improvement in order to do that.

"Speaking to other people there is a buzz about this place and it is the most exciting time at Notts County for years.

"I came down and spoke to the Manager and the incoming Chairman and their plans were to move the club forwards and I wanted to part of it.

"I kept in touch after our meeting and the way they sold the club was very impressive.

"It was a hard decision because I've had seven or eight clubs to choose from, but I'm pleased I've made this decision."

The midfielder, who has averaged ten goals a season over the past three years, can't wait to start pre-season training with his new team-mates tomorrow.

He said: "I have spent the last week getting things sorted out so now it is all done I've got something to look forward to.

"I've met the lads today and had lunch with them which was nice.

"They've told me how tough the pre-season training has been so far, but after a good break I'm ready to go again."
