Ian McParland believes he has today landed one of the "most exciting players in League Two" in the form of midfielder Ben Davies.

Davies rejected the opportunity to stay at League Two rivals Shrewsbury Town - as well as the advances of Championship & League One clubs - to commit his future to County on a three-year deal after his contract at the Prostar Stadium expired.

The 28-year-old has scored 31 goals from midfield in the last three seasons with the Shrews and the much sought-after player becomes County's sixth signing of the summer.

Said McParland: "We've managed to secure the signature of a very talented footballer and we have fought off some very strong competition to bring him here, so I'm delighted.

"Ben's goalscoring record obviously stands out but there is plenty more to his game than just his goals.

"He can get on the ball and open doors for us and his set-pieces are deadly as well. It is an exciting signing for us.

"Graeme Lee (who signed on Tuesday) and Ben were the two players myself and Peter Trembling spoke to last Thursday and to have them both on board is fantastic news for the club.

"We've managed to sell to both of them what we're trying to achieve and we believe both Graeme and Ben have a big part to play in that."

Birmingham-born Davies began his career with Walsall but failed to make an appearance for the Saddlers.

He went on to have spells at Kidderminster Harriers and Chester City before moving to Shrewsbury in 2006, where he made 127 appearances.

McParland is still in the hunt to bring in a new striker to bolster his attacking options, and he added: ""I'm really eager to get a striker on board within the next week which will go a long way to completing my squad."
