Tommy Set For Burns Tribute Game
Notts County Coach Tommy Johnson will be amongst a number of glittering Celtic stars gathering at Parkhead to celebrate the life of Tommy Burns this weekend.
Celtic legend Burns sadly passed away a year ago after being diagnosed with skin cancer in 2006. He made 352 Celtic appearances between 1975 and 1989 and went on to manage the Hoops between 1994 and 1997 - and took Johnson to Parkhead a few months before his departure.
He returned for a spell as a coach in 2005 and he occupied with a similar role with the Scotland national team.
The Tommy Burns Memorial Match will see a Burns Select XI face the current Celtic team on Sunday, 31 May, at 2pm.
Packie Bonner, Tom Boyd, Tosh McKinlay, Malky Mackay, Derek Whyte, Roy Keane, Joe Miller, Stilian Petrov, Jorge Cadete, Pierre Van Hooijdonk, Simon Donnelly, Neil Lennon, Kenny Dalglish, John Hartson, Murdo MacLeod, Andy Walker, Rudi Vata, Alan Stubbs, Paul Lambert, George McCluskey, Stewart Kerr, Jim McIntyre, Lex Baillie, Peter Grant and Tommy have all confirmed their attendance.
Tommy Burn's son, Jonathan, will also feature during the 90 minutes, as will Celtic youth prospect Islam Feruz and charity auction winner, Stephen Melville, who paid £20,000 to play for 20 minutes.
Tommy scored 23 goals in 50 Celtic appearances between 1997 and 2001, and he said: "I am honoured that I will be playing my part in celebrating the life of Tommy Burns, who I am privileged to have played under. He was a great man."
