Mike Edwards firmly believes that if Notts County can produce consistent back-to-back displays next season there's every chance of a successful campaign.

County recorded back-to-back League victories just once last season, and Edwards knows that was a huge factor in why the Magpies finished the season in 19th place.

"We need to be more consistent in following up  good performances, and results, with another," said the central defender.

"There have been times when we've got a good result and gone from playing well and deserving to win to putting in a poor performance and getting beat.

"For example we played really well in February against Bradford City and deservedly beat them 3-1, yet three days later we went to Darlington, put in a poor display and lost 1-0.

"If we can string those wins together there is no doubt at all that will improve the confidence, and there is no reason at all why we can't have a good season."

Edwards is looking forward to return to pre-season training next month and is relishing the challenge of helping County to try and enjoy a better season.

To do that Edwards knows County must be stronger at the back and improve on the record of just eight clean sheets in all competitions.

He said: "We need to keep more clean sheets, which as defender you would expect me to say.

"We didn't keep enough last season for one reason or another, and eight wasn't good enough by any means.

"Sometimes we just switched off and it cost us at important times while on other occasions a spectacular goal was our undoing.

"I'm up for the challenge of beating last season's figure and hopefully seeing us have a better year."
