Hoult Optimistic For The Future

Posted on: Tue 19 May 2009

Russell Hoult has admitted he is glad to see the back of 2008/09....and he is optimistically looking forward to next season.

The experienced goalkeeper suffered a nightmare campaign with injuries and made just 21 appearances for County.

A stress fracture in his right ankle on the first day of pre-season training kept him out until September and then a shoulder operation in December ended his season.

Despite targeting a return before the end of the season Hoult suffered a set-back which ended his hopes of adding to those 21 appearances.

He said: "This year goes down as a frustrating one, that goes without saying.

"It hasn't been the best because I've never been injured this much during my career.

"To have two injuries - which ruled me out for quite a while - wasn't exactly the best start to my time with Notts after signing permanently last summer.

"I'm glad the season is out the way now so I can look forwards and start afresh in July when we come back for training.

"I'm optimistic about the future now, the shoulder feels ok and hopefully I can get a pre-season under my belt and then hopefully a full season.

"Being out for so long after the shoulder operation and suffering setbacks did affect my confidence because I was no nearer to playing.

"After setting my sights on the game at Bournemouth in March to return I didn't make it and I had to see the specialist again, so from there I knew the season was over for me."

As a result of his prolonged spell on the sidelines Hoult is planning to - with the exception of a short holiday - work throughout the summer to get himself in the best possible shape for next term.

"I won't stop during the close-season; I'll be working hard over the summer to be right for the season ahead," he said.
