Hammy's Immense Pride
Matt Hamshaw has revealed his immense pride in being named Notts County's Player of the Season for the 2008/09 season.
The right winger was named as County's Player of the Season on Tuesday evening at Meadow Lane, coming out on top in the fans' vote.
Hamshaw's name will take pride of place on the trophy next to some legendary names in County's history such as Don Masson, Raddy Avramovic, Les Bradd, Pedro Richards and Brian Stubbs.
And the former Mansfield winger is nothing short of delighted that he will be joining those elite names on the trophy.
He said: "This club is steeped in a lot of tradition and history, so to be listed amongst the other players on that trophy is obviously a big honour and I feel a lot of pride in winning it.
"It is something I don't take lightly; it is the first one I've won in my career and it is nice to get recognition from the supporters.
"It is also a nice reward for all the hard work that has been put in that people don't always see, like in the gym and on the training ground.
"It was nice to hear what the Gaffer said as well about me (Hamshaw finished in second place for the Manager's Player of the Year Award), which like I said is a bit of credit for the hard work I've put into the season."
Hamshaw admitted he was surprised to have come out on top with hot competition from other award winners Myles Weston and Jamie Clapham.
He said: "I was surprised because a lot of other players have had decent seasons, which was proved with Jamie Clapham and Myles Weston also winning awards.
"In Michael Johnson's last season he has also had a good campaign so to come out on top is a good feeling.
"I voted for Jamie in the Players' Player Award. Since he has come in he has made a big impact.
"He is the player I sit next to in the dressing room and I look up to him a little bit, but don't tell him that!
"You listen to what he has to say and how he wants to play.
"He has been a big help to me - and a number of the other players - but his performances have also been good on a Saturday."
