Butch: "We're All Unhappy With Recent Results"

Posted on: Wed 22 Apr 2009

Richard Butcher has admitted Notts County's dressing room is an unhappy one - purely down to results - and has insisted it is down to the players to put that right.

County have suffered four successive League defeats and have two games left to end the season on a positive note.

Many people have stated that County have little to play for in the final stages of this season with the Magpies safe from relegation, but that isn't the way the players have been approaching games.

Butcher has also refuted claims that the players are not bothered.

Speaking after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Morecambe, he said: "We're all unhappy and anyone who thinks we don't care couldn't be any further from the truth.

"Deep down we're hurting and we're desperate to win a game of football.

"We have to keep going in the next two games and try to get some sort of reward, and also a bit of luck which we have been lacking of late.

"Goals change games and just can't seem to get those goals and other teams seem to do."

Butcher still has a chance of finishing leading scorer at Meadow Lane this term.

To do that, he needs to add to his eight-goal tally to catch nine-goal leading scorer Delroy Facey.

He had the opportunity to add to his tally on Saturday at Morecambe, but was superbly denied by Barry Roche late on.

A firm header from Jamie Clapham's left-wing cross looked destined for the net on Saturday until the former Forest goalkeeper intervened.

"I didn't get many chances, but when that one came my way I met it quite well," he said.

"The goalkeeper pulled off a fine save and that summed up how things have been going for us at the moment.

"They scored a scrappy goal while at the other end the goalkeeper has made a few fine stops.

"Scrappy goals have been our problem of late, especially at the wrong times in games."
