Phil Picken has insisted Notts County's players cannot go into the final three games of the season with the attitude that there's nothing left to play for.

County don't have to be concerned about being dragged into the relegation dogfight at the foot of the table like last season.

The highest Notts can finish the season is in fifteenth place and Picken believes that is something County should strive to achieve - starting with a win at Morecambe tomorrow.

"We can't go until the end of the season thinking there's nothing to play for," he said.

"It's ridiculous to suggest that because we want to do the best we can for Notts County.

"I don't see how any professional footballer can have nothing to play for.

"At the end of day you're playing for yourself and the team, and there's always someone watching and forming an opinion.

"There are players out of contract as well in our squad so there is still quite a lot to play for from that point of view, as well as wanting to finish in the highest position possible."

County have suffered three successive defeats in League Two and Picken believes County are better than recent results.

He said: "We have the quality in the squad, which is the most frustrating thing at the moment."
