The old saying 'good things come to those who wait' was more than evident in Kevin Pilkington's case on Saturday.

The County goalkeeper ended a wait almost totalling up to three months for a clean sheet with a shut-out at Bournemouth on Saturday in the 1-0 victory.

His last clean came at Grimsby on Boxing Day in another 1-0 win.

Three crucial saves in the first ten minutes and a fine stop late on by Pilkington played an instrumental part in the victory at Bournemouth.

Making his way up the Main Stand after the game to conduct his post-match interviews with a huge grin on his face it was clear to see just how delighted he was with the result and the clean sheet.

"It has been a long wait for an away win, Boxing Day seems a long time ago at Grimsby," he said after the game.

"The clean sheet for myself had also been a long wait so I'm relieved to finally record one.

"We've only kept two this year now, one by me and the other by Josh Lillis when I was out injured.

"It was nice to go away from home, be nice and solid and come back with a 1-0 win.

"The result was a good one considering Bournemouth's form going into the game.

"We were excellent in the first half and it could have been a little more comfortable."

Pilkington also admitted he knew his early saves were vital to ensure Bournemouth didn't get the early advantage at the Fitness First Stadium.

He said: "I think they were decent saves and to make them very early on was important because we didn't want to give them the early impetus.

"I enjoy making those sorts of saves, it's what I'm there for, and it is fantastic to keep a clean sheet eventually."
