Notts County can take great heart from their midweek performance against Gillingham going into tomorrow's game at AFC Bournemouth, according to Assistant Manager Dave Kevan.

County put in a spirited display in the 1-0 defeat on Tuesday evening, matching the second-placed Gills all the way.

In a run of three home games in a row Notts picked up just a single point and while Kevan is adamant that despite the lack of points totalled up the performance against Gillingham has given Notts a positive to build on.

"The points total from our last three games hasn't been good enough and we're well aware of that," said Kevan.

"Having said that the performance on Tuesday night gave us some heart and in general we were quite pleased.

"It was just unfortunate we didn't take something from the game.

"If we can reach that level of performance in our last eight games I am sure we will pick up some points along the way."

This weekend opponent's Bournemouth have enjoyed a fine run of form - winning four and drawing one of their last five - and Kevan has praised the efforts of new Manager Eddie Howe who has masterminded the Cherries' rise up the table.

And he believes there is no reason why County can't claim a first away win of 2009 tomorrow.

"We have to go Bournemouth and they are on a good run of form, but we're going there looking to win and there's no reason at all why we can't," he said.

"Bournemouth have given themselves a great chance of staying up under Eddie Howe, who has gone in there and done very well.

"This game gives us an opportunity to put the previous results right and we will be doing all we can to give a good account of ourselves and pick up some points."
