Notts County today said farewell to Jack Wheeler - surely the most dedicated and loyal servant that the club has ever had.

The re-arranged Service of Celebration, which had to be postponed last month because of bad weather, provided an opportunity for more than 200 people with strong Notts County links to pay tribute to Jack.

There were plenty of stories to tell about the man who served Notts County in various capacities, never missing a single first-team game in his 26 years at Meadow Lane.

Moving tributes were paid by Howard Wilkinson, Richie Barker, Bob Worthington, Don Masson and Colin Slater, and John Armstrong-Holmes, Ian McParland, Mick Leonard, Brian Bates and John Mounteney also played a part in the Service.

The common theme running through all the tributes was that Jack was a very special man … a true gentleman and a loyalty service who always had a smile on his face, and made it his mission in life to help everyone who crossed his path.
