Ian McParland is confident Adam Nowland can shake off 'a couple of niggles' to be included in the Notts County squad to face Shrewsbury this weekend.

The midfielder, who went off at half-time in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Darlington, is undergoing treatment in a bid to be fit in time for the game at the Prostar Stadium on Saturday.

"Adam Nowland has a couple of niggles which aren't too serious," said the Notts boss.

"He has an issue with his back which needs to get sorted out."

McParland also revealed during his annual Thursday afternoon press briefing that winger Matt Hamshaw has an outside chance to returning to action next week.

A hamstring initially ruled the winger out for three weeks, but he could make a speedy recovery inside a fortnight.

He also had good news to report on goalkeeper Russell Hoult, who has been out since December after undergoing shoulder surgery.

He said: "Hammy unfortunately won't be available for Saturday but he has an outside chance of being available for Tuesday though against Luton."

"Russell is progressing nicely and I would hope in two or three weeks he will be up for selection."
