Notts County's groundstaff today began 'operation clear-up' to remove the remaining snow off the Meadow Lane surface.

Last week's two heavy bouts of snow left the pitch covered in a blanket-like fashion..

As a result Nottingham Rugby's EDF Energy National Trophy home game with Cornish Pirates, arranged for last Sunday, was called off on Friday morning.

That game has been re-arranged for this forthcoming Sunday (15 February) - which follows Notts' home game with Barnet on Saturday - and that means Greg Smith and his groundstaff team of Trevor Hutchinson, Mick Mayes and John Edson will be working around the clock to ensure the pitch is in perfect condition for both games.

And this morning the groundstaff took up the task of removing the remaining snow, armed with shovels and plenty of elbow grease!

Greg, taking a brief breather, said: "We've been monitoring the weather forecasts leading up to the weekend and it looks like we're in for a cold week, so we wanted to get the snow off today before the temperatures dropped and froze the remaining snow.

"The snow has been on for a week now so it's now a case of getting that snow off and, if required, we can put the frost covers on."
