McParland Prepared For Tough Imps Clash
Ian McParland has urged Notts County supporters to get behind his side when they entertain Lincoln City at Meadow Lane on Saturday afternoon.
The local derby kicks off the Magpies' Christmas campaign, and McParland is calling on the Notts faithful to play their part tomorrow.
The Scot believes the fans, especially in the Victoria Centre Kop Stand, can lift the players and help them bounce back from last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Chester City.
But against a Lincoln side full of confidence after last Friday's 5-1 victory over Accrington Stanley he knows his Magpies are in for a tough ride.
"I've been to see Lincoln a few times this season and they can be a really good team," said McParland.
"I watched them in the first-half last week against Accrington where they didn't play too well, but in the second-half they were fantastic and won 5-1.
"It is a local derby and a tough game - but a good game for us also.
"I want the fans to get right behind the lads as well and give them a bit of a boost, which I'm sure they will."
With no midweek game this week the Notts boss and his coaching team have been able to get down to a full week on the training field with the squad.
McParland feels the week has been a positive one, but accepts that of late his side have had trouble transferring their form on the training ground onto the pitch.
He said: "We've had a good, positive week as always and the boys always work hard.
"Training hasn't been a problem, but recently it has been when we've crossed the white line we've had a few problems in terms of putting in a 90-minute performance.
"We had a lot of the ball and put a lot of crosses into the box last week for example, but we haven't been getting onto the end of those crosses or putting the ball in the net and we need to be doing that."
Notts recorded a 1-0 win over Morecambe last time out at Meadow Lane, and like defender John Thompson McParland is calling for a repeat performance.
"The Morecambe performance was a good, solid, professional display and that is the standard we need to meet," he said.
"I just wish we had got the two or three goals we deserved - but I hope we have them saved up for tomorrow."
