Thompson: "We're Fired Up"

Posted on: Fri 19 Dec 2008

John Thompson believes Notts County's players are more fired up than ever to get a result this weekend when Lincoln City visit Meadow Lane.

The Irishman believes that the squad are sick and tired of tasting defeat - and after a 2-0 reverse Chester City last Saturday he feels the squad are determined to get a result against the Imps and start their Christmas campaign in perfect fashion.

"Tomorrow's match is a massive game for us, as they all are at the moment," he said.

"After last Saturday we know what we have to do out there this weekend.

"Everyone's a bit sick of all these losses we've had, so the lads want to put that right and the vibes are good going into the game.

"When you lose there's no worse feeling and it spoils your weekend, just like it does for the fans and we want to put that right."

Thompson believes the vibes are good going into tomorrow's Meadow Lane showdown and he has labelled training this week as the best week the Magpies have had so far this term.

He said: "I would go as far to say that we've had the best week's training we've had all season and the players are totally up for the game and buzzing for it.

"The tackles have been flying in during training and the lads are quite aggressive in looking ahead to the game.

"We have come back from training more mudded up more than ever and we know it is on our shoulders as players on Saturday to get a result."

After running out 1-0 winners last time out at Meadow Lane against Morecambe at the start of December Thompson believes a repeat performance is required.

"The last home was a good, solid performance against Morecambe and we need to replicate that," he admitted.

"We need to get a run going at home, and we're striving to repeat the performance because blocks and tackles were flying in and we deserved to win."
