Ian: "I Knew Jonathan Would Score Goals"

Posted on: Mon 17 Nov 2008

Notts County Manager Ian McParland has hailed the impact of Jonathan Forte after the new Magpies signing netted a hat-trick on his debut in the 4-0 win at Barnet today.

The on-loan Scunthorpe striker bagged a first-half hat-trick, and handed Notts their second away win of the season in a fine performance at Underhill.

And McParland said: "Jonathan is a very quick player and he has bags of pace, and I knew if we could get the ball in the box he would score goals.

"We did that in the first half, and we deservedly got our goals and long may it continue for the next three weeks."

The Notts boss also praised his strike partner Delroy Facey, who contributed superbly to Notts' win.

He said: "Delroy has been superb up top for us. He is a real battering ram up there and he took a lot of punishment in the first half."

Despite the 4-0 scoreline, McParland revealed he was more satisfied with the clean sheet his side claimed.

It was the second clean sheet in a row for McParland's men, who were solid at the back throughout.

"The most pleasing thing for me is that we kept a clean sheet," he said.

"It is fantastic that young Jonathan has got a hat-trick, but I am really happy to have two clean sheets from our last two away games.

"I think Russell Hoult was our best player today and everything he did was excellent.

"His distribution was superb, as was his handling.

"On the whole, it was a good day and we want to kick on and keep going next week at Dagenham."
