Notts County Captain Mike Edwards believes the 3-1 defeat at Chesterfield at the weekend will kick the Magpies back into gear.

The loss at Saltergate was the first for Notts since the opening day of the season at Bradford City.

And he insists Notts can bounce back with a win against Rochdale tomorrow night at Meadow Lane - and give the fans something to cheer.

"Maybe having a beating may well re-kick into gear, which may sound a bit twisted in a way," said Edwards.

"We'll be positive, and Rochdale tomorrow night will be a tough game for us but we know we can put it right and bounce back from the defeat.

"I'm sure we'll hear the fans again on Tuesday night - they've been brilliant this season and to take 1,000-plus on Saturday was superb.

"We couldn't give them anything to cheer about, but we're determined to change that with these two games."

Reflecting on the defeat at Chesterfield, Edwards felt a poor first-half display was Notts' undoing.

And after seeing the eleven-game unbeaten run end in disappointing fashion Edwards admitted conceding three goals in a game in the League for the first time this season was a massive disappointment.

He said: "It was unlike us to give three goals away, which was obviously disappointing.

"The first-half performance was not up to scratch by any means, and that was the same at Gillingham.

"The first-half displays are something we need to address, although we did do well in the second half and we had to chase the game which left a few gaps at the back.

"We now have two games at home coming up, and in a way maybe losing the unbeaten run will do us some good.

"Afterwards we were all a bit down to lose that run which we were proud of."
