Ian: "We Don't Do Things Easily"

Posted on: Tue 30 Sep 2008

Richard Butcher's superb late header secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Aldershot Town at Meadow Lane this afternoon for Notts County's first League win of the season, and Manager Ian McParland joked afterwards: "We don't do things easily".

Butcher's header four minutes into injury time netted the win on an emotionally-charged day at Meadow Lane.

And McParland admitted it was a fantastic feeling to finally get three points on the board - and in the end get the result his side deserved.

He said: "It was the right result, and it was fantastic to get that goal at the end from Butch.

"We never do things the easy way, but today was a fantastic feeling.

"They (Aldershot) were the best team we have played by far, and that is including your Shrewsbury's and Bradford's.

"They were skilful and gave us a bloody handful for our boys.

"It has been an emotional day for supporters and people like myself, Dave and Tommy.

"It was possibly the most emotional I have been on the touchline and I'm proud of the way we stuck at it and had a few half-chances, but we got a bit too excited at times.

"Our lads worked their backsides off and they deserved it."

McParland also joked afterwards after seeing his side score their third goal in as many games in the final minute that he can't take much more of the late drama.

He said: "I don't know what it is about these late goals, but if we go on line that every week you'll be wheeling me out the ground on a barrel after a heart attack!

"I'm delighted for Butch. He couldn't tackle a square meal the lad, but he uses his energy well and it was a great header from him from a superb ball from Jamie Clapham."

McParland also expressed his delight in secure the win for the fans -who have stuck with the Magpies right the way through in their search for the first League win.

"I'm delighted for the fans, the boss (Jimmy Sirrel) and everyone connected with the club," he said.

"The fans can go away with a big smile on their faces, they deserve that.

"The players have put so much effort into games and they've really bought into the game we want to play."
