Ian McParland hailed his players' performance in the 1-1 draw at Luton Town today as 'magnificent'.

The Scot felt his Magpies side put in their best display of the season so far at Kenilworth Road, fighting back from a goal down to earn a point thanks to Jamie Forrester's penalty.

He was also delighted with the response from his side, getting back on level terms within four minutes.

"I think it was our best display," he said afterwards.

"We've played well against Bradford, Doncaster and Darlington and I thought those performances would take some beating - but today the lads were magnificent.

"We went a goal down against the run of play, but we responded really well.

"We got the ball down, got it down the sides and got crosses in."

The performance delighted McParland, but he is desperate to see the performances turn into results.

"While it was a pleasing performance I'm a little disappointed we didn't win the game," he said.

"We have to start winning these games now, we can't come away from home and dominate like we did and not win.

"The points will come though, I'm sure of that."

Forrester's penalty was his first goal for the Magpies, and McParland felt the experienced striker deserved his goal.

He said: "Jamie is off the mark now, and along with the rest of the lads he was superb today.

"His movement was good, he was clever with his play and he deserved his goal.

"Delroy was a rock up there alongside him, and they linked up well."
