Pilks Looking Forward To Donny Clash

Posted on: Mon 11 Aug 2008

Notts County shot-stopper Kevin Pilkington is convinced the Carling Cup showdown with Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday evening will prove to be an intriguing encounter.

Rovers are renowned for their eye-catching brand of passing football, which guided them to promotion from League One last season.

And that brand of football is something Notts are looking to aspire to themselves this season, with Manager Ian McParland encouraging his troops to keep the ball on the floor when possible.

And Pilkington feels tomorrow's Carling Cup First Round tie at Meadow Lane against Sean O'Driscoll's men will be a good test for the Magpies.

He said: "Doncaster are a very good side, they showed that last season in League One.

"They are a very good footballing side and they will get it down and pass it.

"Hopefully likewise we will as well, which is what we want to do.

"We want to play as much as possible instead of bashing it straight forwards this season; although sometimes we will have to do that."

While Notts suffered a 2-1 defeat on the opening day at Bradford City, the performance displayed by Ian McParland's men was one with bags of courage and endeavour.

So much so McParland said in his post-match interview just how proud he was of his players, and Pilkington felt the performance showed what Notts are capable of this season.

"We didn't get the right result, but we showed what we are capable of," he said.

"We gave them a good game and matched them all the way, bar the scoreline.

"Towards the end we were really pushing, and we scared them.

"The supporters gave us great ovation afterwards, and that was great for all of us to see. They were tremendous throughout the game."

Admission prices have been slashed for for tomorrow's Carling Cup tie at Meadow Lane; with admission just £10 for Adults and £5 for Concessions.
