Despite an opening day defeat at Bradford, Manager Ian McParland this evening said he was proud of his players.
The Magpies were beaten 2-1 at the Coral Windows Stadium in the season's opening fixture, with Peter Thorne's two goals for the Bantams enough for Stuart McCall's men.
Richard Butcher pulled a goal back, and while his side were ultimately left with nothing to show for their efforts McParland saw enough to be positive about.
"I'm not displeased at all," he said. "There are obviously things we can get a little better at, and if we can hopefully we can up near the middle of the table.
"We lost the game today because we shot ourselves in the foot in our own penalty area.
"We didn't get ourselves out the box quick enough when clearing the ball, and they made us pay on two occasions.
"The lad (Thorne) took his goals well, but we shouldn't have allowed the ball to find its way to him."
The Scot feels if Notts can improve their final ball, they will enjoy more luck in front of goal.
"For the first twenty minutes we weathered the storm which we expected, and then we got at Bradford and had a few chances ourselves," he said.
"We did ok, and if we can be a little more positive at times and improve on that final ball I think we'll get more goals.
"I felt we were the better team throughout the second half, we got the ball out wide and passed it really well at times.
"I hope our supporters are proud, because I am. The lads kept going and kept passing the ball, and with a little bit more luck we might have got something."
McParland had special praise for winger Myles Weston, who put in a very impressive display on the left-wing.
"Myles Weston ran them ragged at times, and if he carries on that like and it a bit more positive people won't be able to live with him.
"On a few occasions he could have drove on himself and got a few shots in rather than passing or crossing."
Notts could have had a penalty in injury time when Sean Canham appeared to be brought down in the box.
McParland, Assistant Dave Kevan and Coach Tommy Johnson were fuming at the decision, but the Magpies boss chose not to comment too much on the matter
"We should have had a penalty. But, I don't want to say too much because I'll be in trouble with the FA," he said.
