The return of Notts County's Centre of Excellence has caused ripples of excitement in the local community - who will be able to witness the return of the Magpies' youth system this weekend.

At the clubs' Open Day this Sunday (27 July), the final trials for the Under 15s and Under 16s for the Centre of Excellence will be taking place on the Meadow Lane pitch - getting underway at 2pm.

The return of the Centre of Excellence was given the thumbs up last year by the Board of Directors after its controversial closure in 2006.

"The return of the Centre of Excellence presents some fantastic opportunities for youngsters to take the very first steps towards becoming a professional footballer," said Centre of Excellence Director Mick Leonard.

"And although it would be wrong to fill their heads with false hope, that really is what the Centre of Excellence is all about.

"Nottingham has always been regarded within football as an excellent breeding ground for promising young footballers and I'm looking forward to getting around the schools and finding out if that is still the case.

"It is terrific that we have managed to get the final trials for the Under 15s and Under 16s on the pitch, and I would encourage as many supporters as possible to give the youngsters their support.

"It ties in well with the Open Day, which should be a great day."
