A Spot Of Team Bonding

Posted on: Mon 21 Jul 2008

After a gruelling four days in Austria at their training complex in Obertraun, it was time for a spot of team bonding today for the Notts County squad.

Bad weather blew away the early morning plans to head off to the very top of the mountains in the town in cable-cars, which a number of the squad were eager to do.

So as part of a team bonding exercise this afternoon, the squad took in a bike ride to the local village Hallstatt, which 5km away from the complex.

On the way back to the training base, underneath a bridge from which lake Hallstatt runs, the squad showed their metal.

Walking through the undergrowth under the bridge was, perfectly situated in the picturesque surroundings, a diving board and also a ledge. So call it an initiation test or just pure madness - but one by one, the lads jumped into the lake.

One or two didn't fancy it, which is fair enough. Some however did.

A special mention must go to Richard Butcher in particular and also striker Jamie Forrester, who conquered their fears and jumped into the lake.

Assistant Manager Dave Kevan, Coach Tommy Johnson, Fitness Coach Marcus Svensson and Tom Loakes reporting for nottscountyfc.co.uk also rose to the challenge of diving into the freezing water - along with one of Butch's trainers. We don't need to tell you who threw it in the river do we? PM give you any clues?

A test of character, and madness as we say, but it certainly brought the lads that little bit closer together as the week in Austria comes to an end. As Michael Johnson said as the lads dived in the water: "I want to know who I'm going to war with!"

It has been a tough and worthwhile week, the players have been put through their paces in some intense training sessions which have been twice a day every day.

There may well be a few aches and pains after the tough training sessions and two games in three days, but the players are in terrific spirits and the time away has brought the group closer together that's for sure.

But, the hard graft continues tomorrow. Early morning breakfast and straight onto the training field before heading back to Nottingham on Saturday.

We've got plenty of shots from today's dive into the river, and we'll get them on nottscountyfc.co.uk first thing tomorrow.
