Ian McParland's backroom team has been strengthened as Notts County's players aim to get in tip-top shape for the new season.

The Magpies Gaffer has appointed Paul Smith as the Club's new Physiotherapist, as well as Marcus Svensson as a Fitness Coach who will work with the squad during pre-season.

Both Smith and Svensson join the Club from Derby County, where they were working in the Rams' Academy and take up their positions with immediate effect.

As well as working as the head of Derby's Medical Department Smith also has experience of working at Barnsley and Rotherham United.

33-year-old Paul has around ten years experience working in football, and he is looking forward to a fresh challenge working with the Magpies first-team squad. He replaces outgoing Physio John Haselden.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge here at Meadow Lane.

"Notts County is a great club and I'm delighted to get this opportunity.

"It was my decision to move on from Derby and move into a first-team environment, and I'm excited about the challenge which lies ahead.

"I've never worked with Ian McParland, Dave Kevan and Tommy Johnson before, so I'm really looking forward to working with them.

"Obviously I hope I'm not too busy over the course of the season treating injuries, and myself and Marcus will be working hard on injury-prevention to make sure we are as injury-free as possible.

"Marcus has a big role to play as well; there's a lot of work to do but like I said we're looking forward to it - and we're straight down to work now with pre-season training starting today."

Marcus, 31, originates from Sweden but has experience working with both Preston North End and Derby in the past and will be working alongside Smith for pre-season.

He said: "I'm delighted to be here. The facilities are fantastic and I'm looking forward to getting down to work with the strength on conditioning aspect with the team.

"I'm initially here for pre-season; and we will just see how things go from there."
