Chairman Reveals COE Appointment
Notts County's Centre of Excellence will be managed by former Magpies goalkeeper Mick Leonard when it is re-launched in September.
49-year-old Mick will take up his post at Meadow Lane next week, returning from a spell working with youngsters in Dubai.
Mick made 254 appearances in our colours between 1979 and 1989, and also enjoyed spells with Chesterfield and Halifax Town during his career in England before moving on to Hong Kong and China.
Once his playing days came to an end Mick took up a role as a goalkeeping coach role in Hong Kong, but returned to England in 2001 to work in the Academy at Nottingham Forest. In 2003 he took up the position as the New Zeeland's national goalkeeping coach before taking up a role in The Jebel Ali International Centre of Excellence in Dubai.
Mick is well known to Manager Ian McParland and his Assistant Manager Dave Kevan, and Notts County Chairman John Armstrong-Holmes revealed the appointment at the 'Audience with the Notts County Board' on Tuesday evening at Meadow Lane.
The Chairman said: "The new Centre of Excellence Manager will be Mick Leonard.
"Mick is another Notts County old-boy, and he will be returning to Meadow Lane.
"Mick has been running the Centre of Excellence for International Footballers in Dubai, where he has worked with players from Europe and Asia.
"He has a lot of experience and he has been working quite closely with Ian McParland and Dave Kevan, and he is their choice and their appointment.
"Mick is back in the country this weekend."
