As many supporters will be aware, our Coach Tommy Johnson has very strong links with the Education For The Children Charity.
Education for the Children Foundation was established in 2003 and in 2005 was also established a legal charitable foundation in Guatemala called Fundaciòn Educando A Los Niños.
The stated aims of the charity are:
* 'to advance the education of children in Central America by the provision of schools, schools equipment and teaching personnel.'
* 'to relieve the poverty and sickness of children who are educated by the foundation, together with their families, by the provision of shelter, amenities, facilities and equipment, in any such charitable way as the charity trustees determine.'
And Tommy has been working hard in recent weeks to help organise a Charity Golf Day & Dinner on Friday 13th June 2008 - which will be taking place at Beeston Fields Golf Club in Nottingham to raise funds for the Foundation; Education For The Children.
Tommy is inviting any Magpies fans who wish to get involved in this worthwhile cause, and enter a team of 4 and stay with the Charity later for a meal and a few drinks.
The competition will be Stableford with the best two scores at each hole counting. The Tee is reserved from 10:00am until 1.00pm - and the Golf will be followed by a prize-giving dinner at 6.00pm. Entry for each team of 4 will be £300, to include bacon sandwiches, golf, prizes and a three-course dinner.
Tommy explained: "Last year's Golf Day helped us to succeed in our aims for 2007.
"We received funding for 119 safe stoves, increased the size of our schools and built a safe house for the most vulnerable of our children.
"But there is always more to do and we hope that you will get involved with our fundraising events to help us achieve even more for the children of Guatemala in 2008.
"The Foundation's priority this year is to purchase a new school premises in San Felipe. We found the perfect place in 2007 and have been renting and using the site since January.
"We have been given until the end of the year to purchase it at a cost of £150,000. If we are successful in our attempt, this will secure the education of around 200 children.
"The foundation is now responsible for the education of over 400 children, in our own primary and secondary schools and with scholarships in local colleges.
"We still need to secure individual sponsors for 123 children to guarantee funds and ensure the stability of our schools.
"We sincerely hope anyone connected with Notts County can join us for what we think will be a most enjoyable day with the added goal of supporting a great cause."
