Pilks Eating Well - Again!

Posted on: Tue 19 Feb 2008

There's no question Kevin Pilkington will be eating well tonight in view of his latest clean sheet.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper recorded his fourth shut-out of the New Year in Saturday's 1-0 at Chester City, which means another free steak from his local butchers this week.

And he's getting a real taste for success, and with Rochdale to come tomorrow night at Spotland and then Bradford City at Meadow Lane on Saturday he is aiming to be eating well for a little longer yet - but he had massive praise following the game for his team-mates in front of him for leaving him with virtually nothing to do in the game at the Saunders Honda Stadium.

"I will be eating well tonight, hopefully," joked the Notts goalkeeper.

"A bit of Sirloin will be nice! They treat me very well, and I'm grateful for that.

"We've got two games this week against Rochdale and Bradford, so they better get stocked up as I will be planning a dinner party at this rate next week.

"In all honesty though, I didn't have much to do in the game - which was great.

"The lads in front of me defended brilliantly, apart from one moment from Mike Edwards with a dodgy backpass!

"I think he was keeping me on my toes, but seriously he has been brilliant since he returned and you wouldn't think he has been out all season with an injury.

"He has slotted straight back in, and he has been outstanding."

Notts dug in and grinded out the 1-0 success thanks to Danny Crow's excellent header midway through the second period, and Pilkington feels that sort of determined and dogged performance is required from now until the season's end.

"It was scrappy, but we will take that," he said.

"That is probably the way it is going to be until the end of the season, but if we grind out results like that every week we will be happy.

"It was a great feeling coming off after grinding it out, keeping a clean sheet and a centre-forward scoring a great header.

"Ali Gibb put a great cross in and Danny took it really well. He looked sharp in training on Friday, and he did the business when it mattered."
