Forest Memories: Charlie Palmer

Posted on: Mon 30 Jul 2007

With Notts County taking on Nottingham Forest tonight in their penultimate pre-season friendly this evening, we reflect on our last ever encounter on a competitive note against the Reds with the match-winning hero from the famous February 1994 - Charlie Palmer.

Palmer rose highest at the far post deep into injury time to send the home fans into raptures back in 1994, and not being a Nottingham lad he didn't quite realise what he had let himself in for my scoring the goal.

A book on the events of that day followed as a result and plenty of stardom amongst Magpies fans, and he remembers the stories told to him by the younger players in the squad about their night out on the town after the win.

"Not being from Nottingham, I did not realise the importance of the goal until I met up with some of the other players the following Monday," said Palmer.

"A lot of the younger players were full of stories about going out on the town after the game and having drinks bought for them all night.

"I remember setting off down the touchline in front of the old Main Stand, my arms flaying in the air.

"It was a big release of frustration, as I hadn't had the best of seasons on and off the field at Notts. Plus I had just out jumped Stuart Pearce!

Kick-Off this evening is at 7:45pm, and admission is £12 for Adults, £6 for Concessions and £1 for Under 16's. All areas of the ground are open, so make sure you make it down to Meadow Lane to take a first-look at Steve Thompson's new-look squad.
