Hunt Could Still Be Out

Stephen Hunt could be a doubt for the new season as he is still suffering from injury, according to the Evening Post.

Hunt played through the pain barrier carrying a groin injury towards the end of last season, and rest has not yet cured the injury.

Hunt first developed a pelvic problem in February, but said he played through the pain barrier in the last two months of the campaign as the Magpies battled against relegation out of the Football League.

It was hoped the injury would clear up with complete rest for two months during the summer break, before the players returned for pre-season training tomorrow.

But Notts' manager Ian McParland said that had not happened. Hunt was referred to a specialist last week.

It would be a major blow for the Magpies if the defender is ruled out for the start of the League Two season.

His ability to play at left back and in the centre of defence made him a key figure for the club last season.

With six weeks still left before Notts kick off the new campaign against Bradford City at Valley Parade on August 9, McParland is still hopeful he will be fit.

The manager said: "Stephen is still not right, so he has been to see a groin specialist.

"Once they diagnose exactly what the problem is, we will take the necessary steps to get him fit and ready for the start of the season."
