Notts County drew their second game in a week with a 1-1 draw against Macclesfield. having taken the lead early in the second half - but the game was marred by a serious injury to Adam Tann.
Ian McParland made one change to the team which drew with Brentford, John Thompson making his debut in place of the injured Michael Johnson.
Macclesfield got things underway kicking towards the Kop Stand. The Silkmen arrived at the Lane high in confidence having beaten Aldershot Town 4-2 in their last game. But it was County who started the brighter, Myles Weston testing the visiting goalkeeper in the opening minutes.
The first corner of the day was won by Matt Hamshaw. Sending an inviting cross into the box from just outside the eighteen yard box the ball was cleared by Shaun Brisley. McParland would have been pleased with the way his team had started the match, even though there were very few clear cut opportunities in the opening ten minutes.
Keith Alexander nearly saw his team take the lead, Gareth Evans drove through the County midfield, only to shoot wide of Russell Hoult's goal. The visiting team had shipped twenty four goals in their games so far this season and Jamie Clapham could have made it twenty five on the fifteen-minute mark. County had a corner, Hamshaw sent a great ball into the ball only for it to find itself to Clapham on the edge of the penalty box, the defender then sent a shot just over the crossbar.
Twenty-two minutes into the match and Delroey Facey was causing all sorts of problems for the Macclesfield defence. Holding off his marker and then turning him he raced towards the by-line and tapped the ball across to strike partner Forrester, only for Forrester to play the ball into a space where there was no County players.
Simon Yeo was presented with an excellent chance shortly after. Macclesfield Town's leading goal scorer played through on goal by Evans, Hoult came to clear, only for the keeper to completely missed the ball. Thankfully captain Mike Edwards was there to clear the ball.
Facey sent a shot over the bar from ten yards out, the striker applying himself well with no reward. The speedy Francis Green then went close for the visitors. A good old fashioned battle for the ball with Tann saw the forward come out on top, but he shot straight at Hoult from twelve yards out.
The first half ended all square with both teams having chances but never really testing either keeper.
County started off the better in the second half. Ian McParland must have given his side some team talk in the dressing room because within three minutes they had taken the lead. Great play by Forrester on the edge of the opposition's penalty box gave Facey the chance to open his account for Notts County. The midfield had worked the ball well, passing it between them and they found some space on the right wing. The ball was sent towards Forrester and after many lose passes the ball found itself at Facey feet, twelve yards from goal, and he smashed home to give County the lead.
Myles Weston then began to get more involved in the game. The diminutive winger was having a real go at the Macclesfield full back, wieving his was through, he sent a shot wide of the goal.
Weston was then an integral part of County's best move of the match. A series of good passes resulted in Weston in a promising position with the ball at his feet in the oppositions penalty area. The Kop could be heard shouting shoot, but he disguised his shot and passed it to Forrester, who in turn chipped a delightful ball towards Butcher, only for the midfielder's header to be cleared off the line.
The first fifteen minutes of the second half were arguably more interesting than the first. McParland had this week noted that for all the possession his team had had in recent games, it counted for nothing if his side could not capitalise on the possession and get the ball into the back of the net.
But County let that possession slip, Macclesfield Town got back on track with a goal from their top goalscorer this season Simon Yeo. Yeo found space whilst his team were attacking towards the Haydn Green stand and twenty yards from goal he sent a fierce shot towards Hoult. Hoult only managed to parry the ball towards the centre of his goal, where Yeo was there with the follow up to tap home for his fifth league goal.
Twenty six minutes into the match and it turned nasty. There was red card for Gareth Evans for a late challenge on Adam Tann. Studs were showing and the Referee had no other option than to send him off. Unfortunately for County Tann was carried off on a stretcher, the signs not looking too good for the defender who had put in a classy performance.
Tann was replaced by Paul Mayo. Shortly after the sending off the atmosphere around Meadow Lane got misty with the Keith Alexander strongly provoking the County fans.
County nearly won it in the closing stages of the game. A corner for County gave Hamshaw the chance to whip a ball into the box, but he opted for a unfamiliar technique. Playing the ball out towards Clapham the fullback sent a shot at goal, the ball crashing off the crossbar.
A series of substitutions then followed by both teams. McParland bringing on Sean Canham and Adam Nowland on for Forrester and Strachan.
The changes didn't surpass to anything though as Macclesfield Town held on to draw.
