Carl joined the backroom team as Goalkeeping Coach at Meadow Lane in July 2008 following his retirement from professional football.

The former Leicester, Stoke, Chesterfield and Celtic goalkeeper agreed to work with the Magpies' goalkeepers on a part-time basis after leaving Mansfield Town in May, 2008.

He had been with the Stags for the previous two seasons and stepped up to the role of Player-Assistant Manager in the latter stages of his final term at Field Mill.

With over 600 career appearances to his name, he has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in professional football.

His last clean sheet, ironically, was recorded in the Stags' goalless draw at Meadow Lane in March, 2008.
