Posted on: Thu 19 Jul 2007

nottscountyfc.co.uk's regular Blog Columnist Austin McCann brings us up to speed with the latest from the Team Hotel in Cornwall, and tells us about his awful day on the Golf Course, the eagerness in the squad for the first pre-season game against Saltash on Tuesday and also the latest team antics from the Hotel.

I can imagine you have all been looking forward to this, my update on events from Cornwall! Well, Tom has been trying to get hold of me all day to do this, but I've been on the Golf Course so it is a late entry into my next Blog.

Sticking with the Golf, after training today we had a round at the Hotel and I was in a three-ball with Ganns and Pilks; and I was shocking. Ganns is absolutely unbelievable; he hit one bad shot all day. I shanked my way around the course. That was the worst I have ever played, and I'm not happy. It took about six hours to get around the course as well as it was so busy, and that made it even worse!

Going back to training, we had a really good training session today at our training base. We got some good work on team shape in, and then as individuals in terms of positions we did fitness work.

I think we're all looking forward to the game tomorrow now against Saltash; I certainly am. It has been a long time coming. I don't know the plan yet but I would imagine everyone will get a good run-out to get the cobwebs off. I'm looking forward to getting the boots and the shin-guards on again because we've been working towards this.

Everyone's getting on well and training really well, so as the season comes nearer and nearer I think the Manager is going to have some tough decisions to make, but I am sure that is how he and Ganns want it. I'm relishing the battle and the Gaffer has told us whoever gets the jersey in all positions will have to earn it.

Rooming wise, I'm with Hunty and Parky. I came down with Pilks and we were one of the first ones down here so we asked for one of the best rooms as we were there first, as you do, so I went with Hunty and Parky and they said we would get the best one. We walked in, and there are three single beds cramped in and a 12' telly between all of us!

We've been in a few of the other lads' rooms, and they've got sofas, double beds and massive wide-screen TV's, so there's clearly some breakdown in communication here. John Haselden has a massive room as well, with a massive sofa and TV and also his massage table in there. It is a disgrace that staff getting the better rooms!

Tonight though myself and Hunty are going on a mission swap one of the TV's around; we can't manage with the one we have! We just need to pick our victims carefully.

We've got Richard Butcher with us after joined us at the weekend from Peterborough, and he has integrated into the squad well. One concern is the fact he seems to be walking about in his pyjamas all day. He has got a pair of grey tracksuit bottoms that look like a pair you would wear in bed, and we're thinking of getting him to nearest Hospital to see if they need to get removed before it's too late!

We're all off bowling now (9pm) for another spot of team bonding, so that's all I've got time for today. I'm sure before the end of the week I'll be back on here again to keep you up to date, and to let you know if we've taken Richard Butcher to the Hospital, and also if we've managed to get a bigger TV in our room!
