Junior Magpies Blogger Rod Howlett speaks about the side's opening to the season...
At the start of the season everyone knew that the step up to League 1 would be of vast proportions.
The question is, as Notts produce their first league victory, can they really be judged to have class worthy of League 1?
Albeit a scrappy victory against opponents sitting at the base of the table - the second half in particular, looked far more confident; like a side that were, languidly, setting the tone for a season at a steeper standard.
I felt in the first half there was little improvement to the side that had been overwhelmed, twice, both 3-0.
Much as the midfield battled in a hostile encounter, it would be fair to say Dagenham probably edged it, at least for the first half.
There were few chances for either outfit, and it was Dagenham who created the first chance, in the form of a one-on-one, which Nelson managed to snuff out.
Unfortunately, the faint sound of booing was heard at half time.
In the second half, Notts came out with a new vigour, something which had strayed from the side too long.
The spark was set and I felt that the dampened bonfire would soon be lit.
Thankfully, the fire came from Craig Westcarr, a man who has many critics, myself included, but who deserved his Man of the Match performance.
I would hope that should Short have to pick again a striker with Hughes injured, Westcarr should be selected as the leading striker.
I was thoroughly impressed with the development of the new defence.
However, it was a case of Edwards and Lee - the relative old boys, leading the pack.
It was also a pleasure to see Stuart Nelson pull off some excellent saves, testifying that Kasper can be replaced.
To get a win on the board at the start of a new season can be a hellish task, particularly following a promotion.
To say County have managed that in three games is a huge endorsement of the ability of Craig Short as a Manager.
The second half was confident, fiery and a positive example of this side's potential.
It is crucial that we continue this upbeat second half performance, which will be the colossal task for Short and his backroom staff to face.
I have every confidence in them.
