Where did the 'Wheelbarrow song' originate?

'The Wheelbarrow Song' is perhaps Notts County's most well-known chant. It is famous because of its bizarre nature. The origins lie with a ShrewsburyTown away match in 1990. 2-0 down and with their team seemingly going nowhere, the disillusioned Notts County fans began mocking the Shrewsbury fans' accent. Whatever the Shrews were singing, it sounded to a small group of Notts fans like 'I had a Wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off' repeated.

The song seemed to fit the mood of the time perfectly, so disillusioned Notts fans began to sing it back. Unexpectedly, the whole terrace joined in and amazingly Notts County came back to draw 2-2. The now 'lucky' Wheelbarrow song was the soundtrack to a 6 game unbeaten run, culminating in a Wembley appearance and a legendary chant was born, one which can still be heard echoing around Meadow Lane today.
