Blog: Brentford Recall

Posted on: Thu 20 Oct 2011

Josh Pashley, who was recently on work experience at Meadow Lane, looks ahead to this weekend's game with Brentford.

Recent Meetings
March 2010 was the last time Notts visited Griffin Park. The game finished in a 1-1 draw in a dramatic finish, which saw Brentford miss an injury time penalty and Notts end the game with nine men.

Craig Westcarr gave Notts the lead just before the break after a poor back pass. Notts were down to 10 men prior to this, as Jon Harley was sent off for two bookable offences.

After 74 minutes the Bees equalised with Karleigh Osborne heading in a free-kick.

The drama increased when Robbie Neilson smashed a last minute penalty against the bar, whilst Mike Edwards was sent off ending a frantic finish to the match.

The last time Brentford were down at the Lane, it ended in a 1-1 draw.

It took until the 82nd minute for the first goal to be scored, Lee Hughes converting a penalty just after Craig Westcarr had missed from the spot.

Unfortunately for Notts, Jeffrey Schlupp equalised in the fifth minute of added time to prevent the Magpies from taking a valuable three points.

Played For Both

Stuart Nelson

Current Notts stopper Stuart Nelson is the modern day link between these two sides.

Brentford purchased Nels from Hucknall town for £10,000 in 2004.

He stayed with them until 2007, featuring 116 times.

After further spells with Leyton Orient, Norwich City and Aberdeen, Stuart joined Notts in 2010 and has already totalled up 44 appearances in the shirt and is known for being a 'penalty saving specialist'.
