Memory Lane: We took them apart

Posted on: Fri 26 Mar 2010

Passionate Notts fan Rob Bristol brings us his regular blog, Memory Lane, ahead of the six pointer against Rotherham.

Saturday January 20, 2001 probably means little to many Notts fans, but it was certainly a day to remember for those who witnessed us take Rotherham United apart.

Rotherham were striding with ever growing confidence to promotion to Division One, and arrived at Meadow Lane in a rich vein of form, having won six out of the previous eight games away from home.

Following a 34th minute goal from Guy Branston, Rotherham seemed to be on course to add to their impressive run.

But nobody could have predicted the way that we systematically took them apart in the second half.

Goals from Anders Jacobsen, Richard Liburd, Andy Hughes and Mark Stallard stunned the Millers as we ran riot to win 4-1

As for this season, a point at the Don Valley was scant reward as Notts were by far the better of the two sides.

I see this trend continuing on Saturday... My prediction: Notts 3-0 Rotherham
