Time For Consistency

11 March 2014

Manager Shaun Derry has told the Notts County squad that Saturday’s performance means nothing if they cannot back it up with another positive display against MK Dons.

Notts responded from a disappointing defeat away at Rotherham United by fighting out a goalless draw with high-flying Leyton Orient.

Boosted by the positives taken from the fixture, Notts now look forward to another difficult test at Meadow Lane as they attempt to close the gap on the teams outside the bottom four.

“The type of performance we put in on Saturday has got to be the way forward for the lads just to have that inner confidence,” said Derry.

“I’ve got confidence in them because I see it every day but I think they needed to see something for themselves on Saturday

“Having come off the pitch at 0-0 with a clean sheet, which was so important for the back four and Bart as well, I’m hoping that we can carry that into Tuesday night’s game.

“I can play take my hat off to them but it will, as always, count for nothing if they can’t reproduce it.”

He added: “I thought on Saturday we showed what a good side we are at times but we really dug in at crucial times.

“They wanted to show that they were more than capable of putting some pride back into the football club and that’s what stands out for me at this moment.

“I don’t want to stand here and say we’ve turned a corner because it’s too early to say but I’m expecting another performance from the lads - and I hope they produce one.”
