The Media Team delve into the club's archives…

166 appearances, 103 goals for Notts County. Incredibly impressive statistics that prove forward Tommy Lawton was one of the finest players to have ever played for the club.

A superstar of his generation, Lawton arrived to Meadow Lane from Chelsea in November 1947, as Notts splashed out £15,000.

Attendances grew game upon game as Notts entertained the city of Nottingham.

The fans favourite scored twice on Boxing Day in his first season infront of over 45-thousand.

Here is Tommy pictured with Life President Derek Pavis and Mr Magpie opening a bar in his name, which is still situated in the Main Stand.

The club would like to thank Bowles Associates, JMS Photography, Action Images, Dan Westwell and the Nottingham Post for supporting the NCFC History archives.
