They've All Had Programmes

Youth team coach prepares for the return of his players...

The youth team are back in for pre-season training on Thursday and coach Brett Adams can't wait to get started.

The players won't be thrown straight into the deep end though as they have all been given in-depth programmes to work on throughout the summer.

Adams told the Official Site: "It's not too intense to begin with, Mick (Leonard, head of youth) and myself don't believe you can blast them for hours.

"It doesn't work like that now, we have given them a real in-depth programme throughout the summer, away from the football club.

"So although they have been away on holiday with family and friends, we have given them plans to follow and no doubt we will know by the end of the first day if they have followed them.

"I'm expecting them to have worked hard away from here, they are all disciplined lads and it has surprised me the amount of text and phone calls I've had from them asking for advice and what they could be doing more of, ready to be prepared."

The youth team will be focusing on fitness for the first few days of pre-season.

The youth team coach announced that the balls will come out next week, as they begin their preparations for the new season in August.

He explained: "They are all keen and eager to come back in, we've all had a little bit of a break, but still with a focus of what we need to do when the players come back in.

"It's something we are all looking forward to and can't wait to get started now.

"We will sit the boys down and have a chat with them to find out what they have been up, then it will be down to business with the medicals to see if they are fit and well to start the season.

"We will weigh the boys, body fat the boys, get their heights and their measurements and then in the afternoon we will do our first fitness test to test their fitness levels and then come back and make sure Meadow Lane is spick-and-span ready for the first team next week.

"We are planning to go around Colwick Park and Wollaton Hall where it will test their endurance and it will be gruelling, but it is a lovely landscape to go and get fit, if the weather is right.

"The ball will then come out on Tuesday where we will continue our testing."

The youth team have lined up friendlies against Ilkeston, Charlton Athletic, Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Peterborough United.

Details of dates and kick-off times will be published on the Official Site later this week.
