Taylor McKenzie Not At Notts County To Warm The Bench

22 July 2014

Taylor McKenzie has not joined Notts County to provide backup to fellow centre-backs Hayden Mullins and Haydn Hollis.

Mullins and Hollis were instrumental in helping the Magpies to complete The Great Escape last term, after forming a solid partnership at the heart of the back four.

McKenzie joined Notts from Sheffield Wednesday during the summer and is determined to prove why he should get the nod for the opening day fixture with Preston North End at Deepdale.

He told Magpie Player: “I just want to play because I’m not here to sit on the bench - I want to play League 1 football this year.

“They’re a great partnership and I hear that they were intense in The Great Escape last year.

“I’ve just got to bide my time and hopefully prove myself to get in there - whatever position, I’ll even play right-back just as long as I play."

He continued: “I’ve got a great relationship with the other defenders - skip, Hayden Mullins, has been great with me since I’ve come in and I’ve got a fairly good relationship with Haydn Hollis.

“It’s just a matter of time before we know how each other play and what we’re like on the pitch and playing games will help that.”

Notts are in action again on Tuesday night against Carlton Town. For full ticket details, click here.
