Derry: We've Got To Make Sure We're On The Front Foot

17 February 2015

Notts County Manager Shaun Derry is looking forward to taking on his former club Sheffield United at Meadow Lane on Tuesday evening.

The Notts boss spoke to the media on Monday to preview the game against the Blades and although he knows that it will be a tough task against strong opponents, he is relishing the chance to build on the morale-boosting victory away to Leyton Orient last time out.

“It’s a fantastic game for us and for them it comes off the back of two fantastic results,” Derry told the assembled journalists. “They had a great game on Saturday against Bristol City and it just goes to show just how good they are, the squad that they’ve got at their disposal.

“It creates a problem, but there you go, we’ve tried to encounter them along the way and no we’re looking forward to it. We go into the game on the back of a good positive win last week as well.”

With Notts not playing at the weekend, due to our game against Preston North End being postponed, Derry looked on with interest as some shock results came in from around Sky Bet League 1 and feels that those games show how unpredictable the division is this season.

“I think those who saw the games at the weekend, it just goes to prove a point just how tight this league is, it’s very tight, and in my opinion it makes our result last Tuesday even better knowing that Leyton Orient went and beat a very good Chesterfield side,” he added.

“I think there’s about nine or ten teams that separate the top six from the bottom four, so, you know, we knew that was going to be the case between now and the end of the season, there’s gonna be some quite weird and wonderful results taking place and we’ve just got to look at ourselves and make sure that we’re on the front foot on Tuesday night and make it a real good night, because I’m looking forward to the game.”
