Notts County Manager Shaun Derry was delighted to see his side get back to winning ways with victory away to Leyton Orient on Tuesday evening.
After a run of three straight defeats, a first goal for recent signing Balint Bajner proved enough to secure all three points at the Matchroom Stadium on Tuesday and with over 100 Hungarian fans watching on amongst the travelling Notts crowd, Derry was delighted for his big striker to open his account.
“I think it was fate tonight, wasn’t it, for the big man?” said the Notts boss afterwards. “He had all of his family and friends over here as well, it seemed like we had the whole of the country in that corner.
“Fantastic night for everyone connected with the club. I love winning, absolutely love winning, can’t stand losing and I’m really pleased that we’ve responded from what’s been a difficult time,” he added.
“It has been difficult, you know no-one enjoys losing games and obviously, with the kick in the teeth that we had on Saturday, in terms of the kind of goal we conceded, it could have knocked the lads, but I thought the response tonight was fantastic.
“You look at changing times in seasons, pivotal nights, and I’m hoping that tonight is one of them nights, but we’ve got to back it up next Tuesday, which is going to be a fantastic night.
“I love playing the big games at Meadow Lane and hopefully we can do ourselves justice and back what’s been a fantastic night here and back the result as well.”
With our Sky Bet League 1 game at home to Preston North End, due to take place this Saturday, postponed due to our opponents’ involvement in the FA Cup, Notts now have a week until our next game, at home to Sheffield United next Tuesday, and Derry feels that the break will do his side good.
“I think it’s important that we take our foot off the gas, it’s been tough, it’s been hard work,” he explained. “We’ve really stretched the lads on the training field and we’ve tested them not only physically but mentally as well and that sometimes takes it out of the lads.
“But we’ve got a little bit of time now just to have a little bit of downtime and reflect on what’s been a pretty chaotic and difficult last two or three months and let’s hope that we can come back in a fairer mindset next Tuesday and take the game to Sheffield United.”
