Shaun Derry Looking For Gradual Improvements As Notts County Prepare To Face Mansfield Town

11 July 2014

Manager Shaun Derry is looking for improvements from Notts County when they face Mansfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Notts were given an initial run out on Tuesday night in the pre-season opener with Arnold Town, which ended in a 4-0 victory.

The opening 45 minutes saw the Magpies’ senior players take to the field and Derry has already started fine tuning his side’s approach to games to ensure that they peak in time for the beginning of the 2014.15 Sky Bet League 1 campaign.

He told Magpie Player: “I was really pleased with the workout because Arnold brought to us a large amount of energy.

“When you’re against anybody at any level, if they make it difficult for you then you’re in for a tricky night.

“For the first 45 minutes, I thought it was disappointing in certain ways but I always had that night as a training session, with the greatest respect to the opposition.

“You’re always looking for a gradual improvements in the pre-season games and they’re staggered in a way where they get harder and harder.

“We’re looking especially on Saturday against a league team that will cause us many threats.

“We’ll have to come up against a different type of opposition because we know what type of team they are as well, but it’s about finding your legs and finding your pace.”

Match commentary for the Mansfield fixture will be available from 3pm on Magpie Player.
