Shaun Derry Impressed By Youth Impact During Pre-Season

24 July 2014

Manager Shaun Derry has high hopes for many of the young players at Notts County after mixing them in with the senior squad during pre-season.

The likes of Reco Fyfe, Kyle Symons and Colby Bishop have stepped up from the Under-18s in Notts’ early warm-up fixtures for the 2014.15 campaign.

Derry sees plenty of potential in the youth team ranks and hopes that their involvement will drive them on to develop their game.

“I’m pleased and I’ve wanted the young lads to get involved because sometimes a few of the young lads won’t ever get to be with us throughout the season in terms of game time,” he said.

“If they can get minutes during pre-season then I’m hoping that really whets their appetite.

“They need to make an impression because I was playing at 18 and a number of other lads are as well.

“We haven’t got the 21s group for them to go into the relaxation period as I call it.

“It’s a relaxing game when you’re playing 21s football and I’m glad that we haven’t got that at our club at this moment in time.

“I’m hopeful that the young boys will jump on board and be involved with the senior team.”
