McCourt: It Was Nice To Put Things Right After Saturday

4 March 2015

Notts County forward Paddy McCourt was delighted to have opened his goalscoring account for the club in the 1-0 win over Colchester United on Tuesday evening.

The Northern Ireland international’s 68th minute header proved enough to secure all three points for Notts in a game that they dominated for long periods and McCourt was happy to see his side get what they deserved for their efforts on the night.

“I had a couple of opportunities on Saturday and didn’t manage to take them, but it was a big result for us tonight,” McCourt said after the game. “The second half was a bit scrappy so it was probably always going to be one goal that won it and I’m just thankful that it was us that got it in the end.”

The 31-year-old had linked up well with fellow loanee Jamal Campbell-Ryce throughout the game and it was their combination that provided the goal for Notts, with McCourt full of praise for all of his teammates.

“It was a great ball, I just seen him, he was doing his jinking runs like he does and I just gambled at the back post and he clipped it up lovely and thankfully for us it went in the bottom corner,” he added.

“The lads defended well. We came under a wee bit of pressure immediately after we scored, which is normal away from home, they were coming at us, but I don’t think on Saturday we got what we deserved out of the game, so it was nice to put things right tonight.

“On Saturday we probably created seven or eight good chances and didn’t manage to win, so football’s like that sometimes. Tonight we probably weren’t as good as we were on Saturday and we’ve ended up winning the game so you’ve got to take these results when you get them and it was a big win for us.”
