Notts Youth Team Denied Big Win

4 April 2014

Notts County youth team were denied a win against North East Youth Alliance league leaders Bradford City on Wednesday afternoon.

The Magpies took a first half lead thanks to Colby Bishop’s cool finish, before the Bantams levelled ahead of the interval.

Jack Golding restored Notts’ lead with 30 minutes left on the clock but Bradford hit back again late on to take a point.

Academy manager Mick Leonard was pleased with the performance, which highlighted the progress made this season.

He said: “I thought we’d go on to win the game at 2-1 but they capitalised on a mistake to get the point.

“2-2 was probably a fair result and we matched them physically, which at the beginning of the season we wouldn’t have managed to do.

“We stuck to our guns and tried to play football and pass the ball around.

“Fair play to Andy McMillan and the rest of the staff because we’ve found the right balance now of competing and playing and becoming creative and a threat at set plays.

“We’ve made giant steps to see where we were at the beginning of the season to where we are now.”

Leonard also thanked the Notts fans in attendance for the fixture.

“We really appreciate the support and it goes to show that the core support within the club is there,” he continued.

“It’s always been there and I remember it when I was a player here.

“I think that once you’re a Magpie you’re always a Magpie and the staff and the boys appreciate it.

“A big thank you to them for cheering us on and I’m glad that we’ve been able to put on some good performances.”

The youth team are in action again this weekend away at York City. For full details, click here.
