Halsall: It Was A Poor Performance

23 March 2015

Notts Youth Team drew 1-1 with Bradford City on Saturday.

Midfielder Lartey Sarpong put the Magpies ahead in the first half, but conceded late to the Bantams deep in the closing stages of the match.

Head of Academy Coaching Mick Halsall wasn’t happy with the performance.

He told the Official Site: “We were fortunate to come away with a point in all honesty.

“We managed to work our way into the game and go 1-0 up through Lartey Sarpong. It was a clever bit of play, but we were lucky that the ball dropped kindly to us and we could take the lead.

“We just about deserved the lead at that time, despite us not starting the game well.

“But throughout the game we were way off it pace wise and we didn’t get our passing game going and we didn’t create many clear cut chances.”

The host did grab a deserved equaliser and could have scored a winner in injury time.

Halsall added: “Bradford put us under a lot of pressure and we didn’t close the game out with three minutes to go and concede.

“The most worry aspect is that they had plenty of other chances to grab a winner in injury time and it’s actually quite distressing how we collapsed as we let go heads down. They had at least five more chances and that is very, very poor.

“With that in mind, it was a very disappointing performance. We were resilient at times, but it wasn’t nice to watch the final stages. We weren’t brave and keep the ball, we needed to stand up and be accountable and five or six didn’t do that and we were so open.

“With no game this weekend, it’s something we will be working with the lads on and hoping to go again in the final two matches.”
