Not Pretty But Another Win For U18s

10 February 2014

Notts County youth team returned to action with a 1-0 victory over Chesterfield, courtesy of a Tyler Guy header.

In difficult conditions, it was a game of very few chances but Guy’s header, made possible by a Reco Fyfe cross, secured the three points.

The young Magpies have now recorded six consecutive league wins and continue their climb up the North East Youth Alliance.

Head of Academy coaching Andy McMillan said: “It was good to get a game but to be perfectly honest, it was horrible conditions.

“The wind was blowing a gale and it wasn’t even in one direction – the ball was going in the air and moving all over the place.

“It was a nice pitch, don’t get me wrong, and the groundsman there need a lot of credit as it was certainly playable.

“We’ve grinded out a 1-0 result but it’s probably the poorest we’ve played, though we’ve won the game.

“I wasn’t particularly keen on the way that we played but sometimes you’ve got to teach them how to grind out results.

“Conditions and pitches aren’t always perfect, neither is the game plan sometimes - it’s just nitty-gritty football.

“It was a game of limited chances but the run continues which is a positive thing and it keeps us ticking over nicely heading into a free weekend.”
