Mullins: It Was Brilliant To Be Back

21 December 2014

Defender Hayden Mullins returned to the team on Saturday in the 2-2 draw...

The Captain has been out of action since the start of November with a calf injury, but was selected to face Rochdale in the right-back position.

Mullins admitted that it was a test of his own fitness in the second half, but was delighted with the squad's character to grab a late equaliser.

He told Magpie Player: "It was an eventful game and I thought Rochdale played really well.

"I enjoyed the first half, but my fitness was tested in the second.

"We had a bit of a game plan and it was going well until 28 seconds into the second half!

"It went wrong, but credit to the boys. The character is there to see all season and for us to keep going until the final second and we got ourselves a draw.

"Garry's done well for us upfront. Credit to him and the boys and the ball fell our way.

"There's a great spirit here. They never say die and we pick up points when we don't play well. We are scraping for everything and hopefully at the end of the season we will be in a really good position.

"I've played full-back before, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

"We are all pleased for Eddy. He works so hard before and after we've all gone in his sports science role, so for him to perform like he does on a Saturday is brilliant and so important for us to keeping popping up with a goal. That was our best move and Elliot (Whitehouse) had a great game."

"He's shown a great attitude in training and he was given a chance."
