Mike Edwards Set For Run-Out With Magpies At Carlton Town

22 July 2014

Former Notts County defender Mike Edwards will turn out for the club once again on Tuesday night, but only as part of his own preparations for the new season...

Edwards, who spent eight seasons at Meadow Lane after arriving from Grimsby in 2004, is currently without a club, having reached the end of a two-year contract with Carlisle United this summer.

The former Hull City defender has been training with Shaun Derry’s squad in recent weeks, simply to maintain his fitness levels as he continues his search for a new club ahead of the 2014.15 season.

He will now step up his fitness work with a run-out for Notts in our pre-season friendly at Carlton Town on Tuesday evening (KO 7:30pm), but Derry wanted to clarify the situation ahead of the game.

“For what Mike has done for this football club, when he asked to participate in training there was only one answer and that was a resounding yes,” explained the Notts manager.

“He’s set a standard with his professionalism, a standard that we’re trying to get across to our younger players and if we can help him out in anyway in his hunt for a new club, it’s the very least we can do.

“It’s difficult when you find yourself out of contract, but hopefully this 90 minutes tonight will go a long way in his own pre-season preparation.”

Tickets for the game against Carlton Town are priced at £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and £2 for juniors, all pay on the day only at Stoke Lane.
